old Star Trek vs. new Star Trek
Been reading articles like this one at Answers about why some of us don't like the new Star Trek movies, and I agree. These movies are great if you've never seen the franchise and just want to see an action flick. Those of us who grew up loving Star Trek grew up with Gene Roddenberry's message, “Star Trek was an attempt to say that humanity will reach maturity and wisdom on the day that it begins not just to tolerate, but take a special delight in differences in ideas and differences in life forms. […] If we cannot learn to actually enjoy those small differences, to take a positive delight in those small differences between our own kind, here on this planet, then we do not deserve to go out into space and meet the diversity that is almost certainly out there.” ( goodreads) This is not present in the new movies. They changed the story as we know it. If you just want to watch a film with tons of action, they are fine. They will never truly be Star Trek movies!
