HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAN CAIN

Dean Cain is my favorite living Superman.
He was born Dean George Tanaka on July 31, 1966, but took his adopted father's last name at
the age of 3.

HAPPY 80TH BIRTHDAY, SUPERMAN

“Up in the sky, look: It's a bird. It's a plane.
It's Superman!” (Superman 1941)

(Superman 1941)

One of my favorite comic book heroes was Superman.
I’ve lost count how many times my big brother and
I have watched to movies and have pretended to
be our favorite comic book heroes.
This is a love that we’ve shared with our parents
and now sharing as parents with our children.

“Superman, American comic strip superhero created
for DC Comics by writer Jerry Siegel and
artist Joe Shuster. Superman first appeared in
Action Comics, no. 1 (June 1938).” (Britannica.com)

We all know the story:
“On the doomed planet Krypton, scientists
Jor-El and Lara place their infant son Kal-El into
a rocket bound for Earth. He is found by
Martha and Jonathan Kent, a kindly couple
from the mid-American town of Smallville.
They name the boy Clark and raise him as their own.
As a child, Clark exhibits a collection of
superhuman powers—invulnerability,
incredible strength, the ability to leap
incredible distances, and super speed—that
would later become the hallmarks of his alter ego,
Superman, the ‘Man of Steel’.” (Britannica.com)

(TheStar.com)

“The character was created by writer Jerry Siegel
and artist Joe Shuster, high school students living
in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1933. They sold Superman to
Detective Comics, the future DC Comics, in 1938.
Superman debuted in Action Comics #1
(cover-dated June 1938) and subsequently
appeared in various radio serials, newspaper
strips, television programs, films, and video
games.” (Wikipedia.com)

Superman is not only a classic story,
but it’s become a timeless one.
He is loved by many of all ages.
There have been many comics, cartoons,
shows, and movies on our beloved hero.
Syfy now has a new show called “Krypton”.
We all have heard about how Krypton was
destroyed and how Kal-El came to Earth,
but we never really heard the events that
lead up to it.
Syfy’s “Krypton” brings it back even further.
It’s a story of Superman’s grandfather
and his efforts to save his homeworld.
My daughter and I love it so far.
If you haven’t seen it and you love Superman,
give the show a try.

Happy 80th birthday, Superman.
Hope you’re around for many more.

SyFy's Face Off

Just received some horrible news, Face Off is going to be canceled. We are extremely upset about this. If you love Face Off, please go to this link and sign the petition. Keep it trending.

https://www.change.org/p/feedback-syfy-com-help-bring-back-face-off-on-syfy

About ten years ago when my daughter was little, she was afraid of monster movies. Then I came across a show on SYFY called “Face Off”. It’s a “...competition/elimination series, special effects makeup artists participate in elaborate challenges for a grand prize and the honor of being Hollywood’s next great effects artist.” (syfy.com/faceoff)
Related image(TVSeriesFinale.com)
I decided we should watch this show together in hopes to show my daughter the movie monsters are just a man in mask, and I was hoping she would love these films like I do. This has worked, plus I’ve also grown more of an appreciation for the movies after learning the hard work that goes into them. My daughter now not only loves the movies, but she it began her love of art.
(Chloe's "Internal Struggle" self portrait)
McKenzie Westmore is the host. She’s kinda cool. Her father, Michael Westmore, has an amazing career in the makeup effects industry and is mostly popular for his work on “Star Trek”. He is now the contestants’ mentor.

Neville Page has done the makeup effects for many movies such as “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” “Star Trek”, and “Tron”. “Neville is currently involved as a design consultant for the entertainment, toy, and automotive industries; and is developing his own line of educational art products.” (syfy.com/faceoff)

Glenn Hetrick “found his first foothold in Hollywood at Optic Nerve Studios as a designer, fabricator, sculptor and painter on several seasons of Buffy, Angel, X-Files, Freaky Links, Babylon 5 and Roswell, among others.” (syfy.com/faceoff)

Glenn and Neville are currently working together on projects like “Star Trek Discovery”. (CBS News Video)   They also have a video on YouTube that’s worth checking out. It was awesome watching them work. (YouTube video) Turns out, I was a fan of Ve, Glenn, and Neville's long before I even heard of them on "Face Off".

The Show
“Face Off” is an amazing show. If you haven’t seen it, what the f---’s wrong with you? My daughter and I just went back and watched all 12 seasons. It was on our cable’s On Demand. Sadly, they won’t return with new shows until next year. I know, I’m bummed. They need to hurry up already. Check out SyFy for reruns.

Adam West passed away

Growing up everyday after school, my brother and I would hurry home to see reruns of the 60’s Batman.

The caped crusader was one of our favorite DC Comic heroes, and he was played by the extremely talented Adam West. Yesterday, Adam West passed away at the age of 88 from Leukemia.

My daughter first experienced Adam West in The Fairly Odd Parents where he played “Catman”. Although, he brought many characters to life. He has portrayed Wild Bill Hitchok and Doc Holiday in the Westerns, as well as appearing on Perry Mason and starring in the Outer Limits.
West was in other DC Comic shows such as The Batman/Tarzan Adventure Hour, Tarzan and the Super 7, Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show, and The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians.

Later West has appeared on News Radio and Murphy Brown. I’ve enjoyed his guest spots on The George Lopez Show and The King of Queens.

Adam West, you will surely be missed.

You guys now that gorgeous genius on CW's The Flash Cisco Ramon? Well, he's played by Carlos Valdes. I just recently found out he can sing too. Came across a song he preformed with Tha Los on YouTube called "Open Your Eyes". Loved it. Check it out.
